YRepresented by Koki Niwa and Ayuka Tanioka, Japan, the top seeds in the Team event at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, booked their place in the final early in the evening of Wednesday 25th August 2010 and then soon after they were joined by the second seeds, Korea.
Kim Dong Hyun and Yang Ha Eun emerged successful at the penultimate stage.
Japan overcame the duo of Tunisia's Adem Hmam and China's Gu Yuting before Kim Dong Hyun and Yang Ha Eun defeated the North Korean outfit of Kim Song I and Kim Kwang Song.
Not One Match Surrendered
It was yet another very impressive performance by the combination of Kim Dong Hyun and Yang Ha Eun; they have yet to surrender an individual match in the competition.
All three fixtures in the team event saw three-nil victories and in the second stage of proceedings they have yet to be required to play doubles.
The first round and the quarter-finals both saw two-nil victories, the semi-final saw the same with Yang Ha Eun beating Kim Song I in four games and Kim Dong Hyun bringing matters to a conclusion by the same margin in opposition to Kim Kwang Song.
More Difficult Route
However, for the Japanese outfit of Koki Niwa and Ayuka Tanioka, life en route the semi-finals and in the semi-finals was more testing.
No troubles in the opening stage of proceedings but in the first round they were tested by Hong Kong and in the quarter-finals by Singapore; in the penultimate round they were examined in particular by Gu Yuting.
Gu Yuting Unbeaten
In all five matches completed prior to the semi-final stage, Gu Yuting had remained unbeaten and had partnered Adem Hmam to success in the doubles.
At the semi-final stage that formula came to an end.
Gu Yuting beat Ayuka Tanioka in three straight games, the defensive style of the Japanese teenager being much to her liking, but that was the end of the fourth seeded team's success.
First Doubles Reverse
Koki Niwa defeated Adem Hmam in three straight games with for the first time Gu Yuting and Adem Hamam suffering a doubles reverse; they were beaten in four games.
A place in the final belonged to Japan where they meet Korea with the the Intercontinental partnership of Adem Hmam and Gu Yuting meeting the North Koreans in the bronze medal contest.
Meet Again
Both are intriguing contests and the North Korean will certainly be seeking revenge; the two teams met in the group stage with Gu Yuting and Adem Hmam emerging successful after winning a full distance duel.
Furthermore, Gu Yuting and Kim Song I will once again lock horns; they met twice in the Girls' Singles event, in the group stage and in the quarter-finals, now they will meet on two occasions in the Girls' Team event.
Familiar foes and in the ethos of the Youth Olympic Games, they are familiar friends.
