The top seeded partnerships in the Men’s and Women’s Doubles events at the KRA Korean Open in Incheon enjoyed success on Saturday 14th August 2010.
Both booked their places in the respective finals; both giving impressive displays en route.
In the Men’s Doubles event Germany’s Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger justified their exalted position; whilst the host nation’s Kim Kyung Ah and Park Mi Young used their defensive skills to good effect in the Women’s Doubles competition to make sure they were present on the last day of play.
German Wins
Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger beat Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi and Tse Ka Chun in the quarter-finals, before recording a six games win over third seeds, the host nation’s Oh Sang Eun and Yoon Jae Young.
In the final, they meet the Korean penholders, the left handed Lee Jung Woo and the right handed Ryu Seung Min.
Not Seeded
Not seeded, Lee Jung Woo and Ryu Seung Min overcame Japan’s Hidetoshi Oya and Takanori Shimoyama in the quarter-finals before recording a semi-final victory over compatriots, Jung Young Sik and Kim Min Seok, also not seeded.
All Korean Final
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Doubles event, Kim Kyung Ah and Park Mi Young recorded a quarter-final victory over Singapore’s Li Jia Wei and Sun Bei Bei, before defeating the fourth seeded Hong Kong partnership of Jiang Huajun and Zhang Rui.
In the final they confront colleagues Kim Jung Hyun and Seok Ha Young.
After causing an opening round shock by beating second seeds, Singapore’s Feng Tianwei and Wang Yue Gu; they defeated Li Jiao and Li Jie of the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, followed by a penultimate round victory against third seeds, Japan’s Ai Fukuhara and Sayaka Hirano.
