France and Romania emerged as the dominant forces at the European Youth Championships in the Turkish city of Istanbul, as the team event titles were decided on Tuesday 20th July 2010.
Both concluded the first five days of action with a brace of gold; France dominated the boys’ events whilst Romania performed likewise in the girls’ competitions.
Represented by Simon Gauzy, Quentin Robinot and Thomas Le Breton France overcame the Croatian outfit of Filip Cipin, Frane Kojic and Luka Fucec to claim top prize in the Junior Boys’ Team event; whilst in the Cadet Boys’ Team competition, the squad of Tristan Flore, Alexandre Robinot and Enzo Angles was not to be upstaged. They beat the Hungarian duo of Marton Szita and Tamas Lakatos at the final hurdle.
Bronze Medals
Bronze medals in the Junior Boys’ Team event went to the Germany (Florian Wagner, Niklas Matthias and Arne Holter) and England (Richard Andrews, Sean Cullen, David McBeath, Liam Pitchford); Germany secured third place beating England in the play-off fixture.
Third place for Germany in the Junior Boys’ Team event and it was the same finish in the Cadet Boys’ Team competition with Florian Shreiner and Qiu Liang gaining third spot ahead of Poland’s Michal Bankosz and Marcin Sarkowski.
Leading Ladies
Two titles for France and two for Romania; Camelia Postoaca, Cristina Hirici and Andrade Vincze overcame the German trio of Sabine Winter, Kathrin Mulbach and Anna Krieghoff in the Junior Girls’ Team final; whilst in the counterpart Cadet Girls’ Team competition it was success for Bernadette Szocs and Irina Ciobanu.
At the final hurdle they defeated the Russian outfit of Ekaterina Guseva and Anna Rossikhina.
Germany and Croatia
Bronze medals in the Cadet Girls’ Team event went to Germany (Yuko Imamura, Theresa Kraft, Nina Mittelham) and Croatia (Anna Svarc, Lea Radovac, Mateja Jeger) with Germany gaining third place; whilst in the Junior Girls’ Team competition it was France and Hungary who completed the medal line up.
Medals for Hungary
Represented by Alice Abbat, Laura Gasnier and Stephanie Loeuillette, third place went to France who accounted for Hungary’s Krisztina Ambrus, Dora Madarasz and Mercedes Nagyvaradi in the play-off duel.
