Chinese table tennis trainer Yang Chuan Ning is set to become the coach of the Singapore Men’s Table Tennis team, replacing outgoing coach Alain Chen in December.
Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) confirmed Yang will replace Chen, when the latter’s contract ends in December.
The 51-year-old Yang coached the Jiangsu Province Table Tennis Team for a half decade, leading it to the top of China’s table tennis hierarchy.
During his tenure, Jiangsu Province Table Tennis Team became a table tennis force in China,capturing the Men's Doubles and the Mixed Doubles at the championships in 2006 and 2008.
Jiangsu Province's Labour & Jiangsu Province Government honored Yang with a 1st/2nd Class Merit Award for his contribution to the development of table tennis in the province.
Yang also received the People's Republic of China Sports Honour Award and produced table tennis stars such as Jing Junhong, Dan Mingjie, Qin Zhijian, Wu Na, Li Ju, and Fan Ying.
Singapore Table Tennis Association president Lee Bee Wah expressed his excitement about Yang and the bright future in store for Singapore in the sport.
Lee also appreciated the contribution of AChen, who has been instrumental for Singapore’s resurgence in table tennis.
